Hex Nut

What is a hex nut? A hex nut is a six-sided internally threaded fastener used with a bolt or threaded rod to clamp parts together. Metric sizes follow ISO 4032 (DIN 934 is the legacy equivalent); inch sizes follow ASME B18.2.2. Strength is set by property class per ISO 898-2 or ASTM A563 / A194.

DESCRIPTION

Hex nut dimensions — the numbers that decide wrench fit

Three dimensions govern whether a hex nut fits your tooling and your joint: s (width across flats, the wrench size), e (width across corners) and m (nut height). Thread size alone is not enough to specify a nut — a drawing that states only “M12” is incomplete.
